Now the children studying in all government council schools will get the facility of 'UKG' i.e. Balvatika-3 education like private schools. Preparations are being made to implement this system for children in the age group of five to six years in primary schools. This initiative is being taken in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020, which states that the child should be at least six years old for admission in the first class. In such a situation, pre-primary education has been considered necessary.
A total of 1,11,621 council primary and composite schools are operating in the state. Out of these, Anganwadi centers are already present in the premises of 70,494 schools, where education from Balvatika-1 to Balvatika-3 is being imparted. Children of three to six years of age are enrolled in these centers. Now the Basic Education Department has prepared a proposal to the government for Bal Vatika 3 i.e. UKG in the remaining schools. A proposal has been sent to the government to start 'UKG' classes in 41.127 schools as well. According to the proposal, in schools where there are no Anganwadi centers, children of five to six years of age will be enrolled by running a campaign. If additional rooms are available in the school, then 'UKG' will be run there, otherwise they will be taught by sitting with class-1. The Education Department has also planned to give necessary training to Shikshamitras and assistant teachers for running UKG. In future, specially trained ECCE educators will also be deployed here. These children will also be provided with mid-day meal facility. There will be provision for games and activity based teaching in these classes. Along with this, materials like stationery, learning corner, wonder box will also be provided, as is being done in co-located Anganwadis. This is expected to bring about a big improvement in the quality of primary education in government schools, which will also increase the trust of parents towards schools.
